How We 2X a Media Company’s Social Media Engagement Rate Over The Holiday Period

BRIEF STORY

Radio Islam is a media company that aims to promote the message of Islam. It has also become synonymous with Islamic values and a tool to dispel misconceptions relating to Islam and Muslims in South Africa and abroad. The station has become a beacon of guidance and an invitation to the world. Through the broadcast of high quality info-edutainment, Radio Islam has become a bridge a cross the community divide. Radio Islam is opposed to discrimination based on gender, race, political persuasion, class, religion, belief, language and disability. The station has lived up to the adage, “Your Favorite Learning Station ” and “The World is our Community”.

Their Goal

Increase Engagement/interactions with their audience over the holiday period compared to previous 2 years

The Solution

After analysing previous holiday period content we noticed that type of content/ or topic was relevant to the holiday period and their audience but was just in the wrong format (image + graphic). Thus we decided to utilize more video content and in particular Instagram Reels for 2 reasons:

  1. previous month’s (non-holiday period) has shown that video content is more engaging
  2. Instagram’s new reels feature was taking up greater real estate on the platform
As mentioned we focused on content that is relevant to the December-January holiday period but at the same time ties up with the Islamic religious values, rulings and practices.
